CHECKUP PLANNING GUIDE

How to compare health checkup packages

Compare named examination differences at three providers in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. See how price, imaging and laboratory scope vary before choosing a checkup.

By the CheckupInChina coordination team · Updated 2026-10-21 · Editorial policy

Compare tests, location and total together

Choose your city, then add two or three packages to the comparison table. Start with the provider, eligibility and named examinations. A package with more entries is not automatically more suitable, because one panel may contain several reported markers.

Use a shortlist you could actually book

  1. Keep the city consistent with your travel plans.
  2. Check the institution and campus on each package.
  3. Compare the full listed scope and use the differences view where available.
  4. Check age or sex restrictions explicitly stated for the package.
  5. Confirm any specific scan, body region or additional appointment before payment.

A real Shanghai comparison: three packages, one provider

These examples all belong to Huadong Hospital, Fudan University, Main campus, Shanghai. All three are listed as male programmes. They show how to compare a consistent location and eligibility group; they are not recommendations for every visitor.

What changes at $384.00? Compared with the $320.00 example, Cystatin C appears and the tumour-marker wording changes to a 12-component panel. The panel’s individual components are not named in that label, so do not assume it is the same set plus nine extras.

What changes at $606.00? HbA1c, a thyroid function panel and an H. pylori test appear. The CT label specifies that printed film is not included. MRI is not listed in any of these three examples; it needs a separate scope, clinical assessment and appointment.

This is an editorial comparison of selected published labels, not the complete examination list or a clinical-equivalence assessment. “Not listed” is not proof that a hospital cannot offer the test. Open each package for its full scope. A larger marker panel does not establish a more appropriate checkup.

Three Guangzhou examples: compare the actual mix

All three are listed male programmes at Clifford Hospital, Guangzhou, Guangzhou. They let you compare one provider and eligibility group. These selected prices are not a city-wide minimum or a medical recommendation.

What does the different budget change?

The $247.00 example names a carbon-13 urea breath test and four-component liver and lipid panels. The $110.00 example names two-component liver and lipid panels. But the $247.00 list does not name chest imaging or a kidney function panel, both of which appear in the $110.00 example. These are different examination mixes.

At $528.00, the list names chest CT and thyroid ultrasound, but its H. pylori entry is an antibody test, not the carbon-13 breath-test label in the $247.00 example. Keep those methods distinct when asking the clinical team which examination fits your needs. The higher price does not mean that it contains every lower-priced examination.

This is a comparison of selected published labels, not the complete examination lists or a clinical-equivalence assessment. Separate bullet points preserve separate catalogue entries. A panel name does not identify every component. “Not listed” means absent from that package’s list, not unavailable at the hospital.

MRI is not listed in these three examples. Discuss its scope and clinical review separately; MRI and endoscopy need their own appointments. Open a package below for all listed examinations and the current service inclusions.

Why the chest-imaging label matters

The $128.00 example lists a chest X-ray. The $280.00 example lists chest CT and thyroid ultrasound, with the CT restriction preserved in the table. At $422.00, the catalogue lists HbA1c, a carbon-13 urea breath test, neck blood vessels ultrasound and transcranial Doppler ultrasound, but its chest examination is again an X-ray; chest CT is not listed.

The $422.00 option is therefore not simply the $280.00 list with extra tests added. Compare the examinations you actually want to discuss, and have the institution confirm suitability and any changes in the written plan.

What a missing item means

A test not present in a published list is not assumed to be included. Ask the team to check it. Similarly named tests may differ by method, body region or scope; the comparison does not certify medical equivalence. A clinician determines whether a particular examination is appropriate.

Read the service scope

Compare the included coordination, bilingual reports and English support arrangement alongside the examination price. The regular checkup takes approximately 2–3.5 hours; Chinese and English reports arrive on the dates confirmed for your package. MRI and endoscopy are scheduled separately.

Ask for one written confirmation

Confirm first, then pay: receive the hospital, package, appointment date and total in writing before full payment. Cancel at least 48 hours before the appointment for a full refund. One complimentary reschedule is available, subject to hospital availability. Read the full payment and cancellation terms.

Choose packages to compare or build a shortlist. For two visitors, choose each person’s list independently and request a combined quote.

When similar lists have different prices

Two records may show the same named examinations and included-service labels at different prices. That alone does not show which is better value, or that the offers are identical. Confirm eligibility, examination methods, options and service conditions in writing. The comparison tool now highlights price differences alongside the labels that differ.

Report-timing wording updated 21 October 2026. Confirm delivery dates for your selected package before payment; existing accepted quotations retain their agreed terms.

Compare the appointments as well as the examination lists

Before choosing between two packages, write down which listed items happen during the routine visit and which require a separate appointment, clinical assessment or campus. For an imaging request, name the body region, side and method; multiple regional MRIs are not automatically a whole-body MRI. The imaging team confirms any requested protocol.

Compare three timelines: attendance in person, final hospital records and English translation, and separate image-file delivery or clinical review. Ask which milestones are confirmed and which are estimates. A short routine examination visit does not mean every result or specialist decision will be ready that day.

Then compare the final total: package examinations, separately requested services, coordination or accompaniment, and records charges. Use the customisation checklist and the report comparison guide, with MyChinaCheckup’s detailed imaging-scope checklist where relevant. Confirm clinical suitability with the receiving provider rather than selecting additional tests solely to fill gaps in a table.
