MRI and CT in China for UK Visitors: Referrals, Timing and Reports

A practical guide for UK visitors arranging MRI or CT in China, including referral checks, contrast preparation, same-day limits and report handover.

Start with the examination you actually need

MRI and CT are not interchangeable requests. Send the body region, the reason for the examination in plain language, any previous imaging information you can share safely, and your arrival and departure dates. The selected institution decides whether the request is clinically suitable.

Will a UK referral be accepted?

A UK referral or letter can help explain the request, but the Chinese institution may still require its own doctor review or order. Contrast-enhanced examinations can require additional suitability checks, including relevant kidney-function information and medication questions. Confirm this before treating a slot as available.

Can the scan happen on the same day?

Some imaging appointments may fit the same day after the institution confirms the clinical pathway and capacity. This is not an immediate-access promise. Registration, doctor review, preparation and report release can each require separate time.

Plan the report before you fly

Ask whether you will receive the original Chinese report, an English version or an arranged translation, and whether imaging files are available. Give the date you leave China in your first enquiry. A report window is confirmed for the selected institution and examination; it is not a universal fixed turnaround.

Review diagnostic options, then send your city, dates and examination request through the enquiry form. CheckupInChina coordinates the visit; the medical institution provides clinical diagnosis and advice.
