Shanghai Checkup Imaging: Chest CT, X-Ray and Separately Booked MRI
Read the actual imaging labels in Huadong packages, understand why CT is not MRI, and confirm body region, suitability, appointments and image delivery.
Identify the modality before discussing a bigger package
“A scan” is too vague for a useful appointment request. The Shanghai catalogue contains different named imaging examinations. The male-labelled FAC8 package names chest CT. Female-labelled 981F specifies chest CT with printed film excluded. Female-labelled 53F0 names chest X-ray with printed film excluded. Those entries should not be combined into a claim that all packages include the same chest examination.
Their displayed prices are $320.00, $606.00 and $788.00 respectively. This mixed-label table illustrates wording, not a clinical shortlist for one person. None of these three lists names MRI. A service missing from a package list may still be separately assessed and quoted; it is not proof that the hospital cannot provide it.

CT and MRI answer different clinical questions
The FDA explains that CT uses X-rays to create cross-sectional images. Its inclusion in a commercial package does not decide whether you should have it. Tell the clinical team about relevant previous imaging so they can assess the examination and avoid unnecessary duplication.
MRI uses no ionizing radiation but has its own safety requirements, including assessment of implants and devices. “No radiation” does not mean that MRI suits everyone or replaces every CT examination. The doctor and imaging team determine the appropriate modality, body region and protocol.
Turn an MRI request into an appointment specification
Describe the body region and the clinical question or existing referral, rather than requesting an unspecified whole-body scan. If you need more than one region, list each separately and ask how that affects the quote and timetable. Provide sensitive medical details only through the institution's agreed private channel, not the initial website enquiry.
- Ask whether a doctor must assess the request or issue an order before the scan.
- Confirm the region, any side-specific examination and whether contrast needs clinical consideration.
- Get the proposed scan slot and preparation instructions separately from the routine checkup.
- Ask how the institution will review implants, devices or other suitability questions before arrival.
We arrange MRI separately from the routine checkup appointment. The ordinary 2–3.5-hour visit estimate must not be treated as a combined duration for multiple scans. If the scan is the main purpose of your visit, start with the diagnostic appointment request and work the screening package around that discussion.
A report is not the same thing as an image file
Separate the written radiology report, an English version, access to the images and any doctor's explanation. Where the package explicitly excludes printed film, do not assume that a digital download is therefore included instead. Ask whether DICOM files or another format can be supplied, how access works abroad and whether a separate fee applies.
Keep the scan report due date separate from the routine Chinese–English report arrangement. Your receiving doctor may have specific file requirements, so ask before travelling. Use the doctor-handover checklist, then send your Shanghai dates and the named imaging request. A clear specification makes both the quote and the eventual handover easier to verify.
